Winter Storm Bellamy is approaching the Midwest and northern Plains, bringing the potential for widespread heavy snow and strong winds. Cities such as Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, and St. Louis are under winter storm warnings, with forecasts indicating the first measurable snowfall of the season for many locations.

Snowfall totals could reach half a foot to over a foot in some areas, with blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions expected, especially during the Thanksgiving travel period. The storm will also impact the Northeast with interior snow, coastal winds, and cold rain, affecting both roadways and airports.

But let's talk about our next system on the way because they're going from lake effect snow to more snow. Winterstorm Bellamy is on the way as we had late tonight, but really all day long tomorrow is going to snow all day long and cities like Chicago. Even Des Moines as well. That's how we have the darker blue. These are winter storm warnings in place, and for some cities across the central northern plains, we haven't seen any measurable snowfall this year. That's about to change as we head on through this weekend here, which is not good timing for people traveling on this Thanksgiving weekend. But look at the bullseye of that heaviest snow, maybe a half foot to more than a foot of snow, and it's going to be blowing snow with some more wind coming in. Our current system. There it is. This low is right here. It continues to move this direction and that's going to bring us. Already some cold air in place, bringing down colder air and also just bringing that snow all day long across the region and then taking some more moisture from the Great Lakes and also pulling that downwind and also carrying on some lake effect snow behind this system. So currently some light snow showers already breaking out. That's related with this system here as we have moisture now being brought in from the Gulf, and that's going to bring us some more enhancement to the snow. But overall we have mainly lake effect snow here in the eastern lakes. Now these bands will start to kind of taper off as we had later on today. As this system starts shifting around, as this system starts shifting our winds. But it's only gonna be a temporary kind of cutting off with some of these snow bands because as they cut cut off Winter Storm Bellamy is bringing in more snow storm snow, not just lake effect snow. So we'll have some lake enhancement again. The lakes are relatively warm this time of the year, especially with this cold air coming on through. But once we get in that snow, it's going to snow and keep snowing and not end until perhaps the sun comes up on your Sunday a little bit later here in Detroit. And then we crank back on the lake effect snow on your Sunday, and everything pushes on towards the interior of the Northeast, where we're going to have a mess for you travelers here. Snow in the interior. We have wind closer to the coast and some rain in a cold rain as well. All impacting roadways and airports. But look at that bullseye. I'm going to draw out kind of the edge of that measurable snowfall, and that means several cities like North Platte like Pier like Omaha, Kansas City, Saint Louis, we're going to see our first measurable snowfall of the year. And Chicago we go from under 2 inches for the season to maybe a foot of snow as we had just through our next winter storm.
