The holiday season is one of the biggest times of the year for blockbusters and Oscar contenders this Thanksgiving weekend we could see a battle at the box office as the country's number one movie wicked for good goes head to head with Disney's animated film Zootopia to Eric Davis is the managing editor of fandango and joins us now to discuss some of the season's most anticipated films. Good morning, happy Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving to you you so I love this time of the year, I love having these shots with you let's talk about wicked for good, it's breaking records. What did you enjoy the most about I mean like it's it's a darker the second film is darker than the first, but people are still lining up to see it they are I mean thank Oz. I mean this movie had the biggest opening ever for Broadway musical adaptation topping last year's wicked which previously set the record. So these 2 films just really resonated with people from all around the world and I think what it says and I agree is that audiences want more and more movies that are driven by or fueled by music, you know and I think we saw with these 2 terrific wicked movies but also this year we had k-pop demon hunters with the job, we're getting a lot of musician biopics right now Springsteen just had one Bob Dylan, there's a Michael Jackson movie coming out in April that's going to make a lot of noise. So I think it's music is universal connects us to people from coach other cultures and all around the world and I'm I'm there for especially when the music is good when you have Cynthia Arivo and Ariana yeah, like who's not going to want to watch each I was watching them last night. So Zootopia 2 I've seen ads everywhere for this movie, what are your takes why think parents are eager to go to the movies this weekend, I was texting with my brother-in-law yesterday, he's got 3 kids, he's like they're home for 4 days from school send help. And I said take them to Zootopia 2 you know not only is it a really great sequel very funny, it's just as good as the first one, it's got animal gags and animal puns galore. Critics and audiences love it certified fresh and verified how to rock tomatoes but what I really love about it is it's got these underlying themes about finding the courage to tell people that they truly matter to you know essentially being thankful for the people in our lives who have our backs and I think that's a really perfect message to share with your families with your loved ones, especially over the Thanksgiving certified fresh and verified hot. Actual those are actual designation. Okay, that's like the movie nerds language. 90% rating on rotten tomatoes, I didn't know that there was all this other certified fresh haha I know I know I love in the studio they're like OK people are going to be home, we've got to release the animated move right now move. I'm always a rom-com girl though my dad and I used to go to all of them and they're coming as a unique spin on this eternity. I love the premise of this one, it's basically you're in the afterlife and you have to choose who to spend eternity with you know that's who Elizabeth Olsen character that's the question she has to answer to I was miles Teller right. Well do I spend eternity with my first love played by Caleb Turner or the man I spent my life with played by he's waiting for her like in the afterlife he is waiting for her, I mean look at those great premise, I love that either of those dudes, I mean you can't go wrong. I love that the inventiveness of the different yeah, I can you know like Beach eternity is one of the ones in the movie you think Beach eternity would be great. But what if everybody chooses it and it's exactly but but Eric one of the things I love about this is and you and I talked about this that there. I'm glad that rom-coms are making a comeback because we haven't seen that for it's been either superhero movies IP stuff. And sequels sequels yet. I mean that this is a trend I hope yeah, I think people want to feel good, I mean it also speaks to wicked for good as I think people want to go to the movies they want to feel good they want to be have you know have a great date night they want to be romantic this film's really romantic a 24 that put out eternity also put out materialist early this year. Yeah, another movie about a girl trying to decide between 2 hot guys ever bet against a 24. All right, let's talk about avatar fire and ash yeah, 3rd film in the franchise look I love the first what what do you look at I just I know I love that. I love the first one like the second one. I love me I think if there's one movie this holiday season we're like I'm going all in I'm doing the IMAX 3 D I got my crew, I'm getting the recliner seats, it's got to be this one, you know the first 2 movies are 2 of the biggest movies ever made James Cameron the architect of these avatar movies is one of these few filmmakers that really cares about the experience you have in a movie theater watching his film. I show up for a guy like that I feel like he's going to give you your money. Yeah, he delivers usually all right so the Housemaid with Sidney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried what can you tell us about that I like this reminds me of like movies like the crush like back in the day. Like who knew the holiday season really needed a sexy unhinged erotic thriller based on a best-selling book. Yes, here comes a man to see free plays a busy mom with a seemingly perfect family who brings in Sydney Sweeney to play as a as a live in Nanny, let's just say things go off the rails in all of the ways if you've read the book you kind of know what I'm alluding to but thriller is there for a reason it's got a lot of twists and turns and it's a great time and erotic you said I thought I would a lot of for a reason. Most moms but not make that choice. Okay, Eric Davis, thank you.
