There were about 28 million beef cows in the U.S. in July 2025, down from roughly 45 million in the 1970s. It's not something that turns quickly. You know, rebuilding the herds and getting the supply back where it needs to be is a challenge. Foreign imports are also down due to U.S. tariffs on Brazilian beef and a ban on cattle imports from Mexico due to parasite concerns. And the problem may not be going away anytime soon. Beef prices are predicted to increase more than 11 percent in 2025. The U.S. is the world's largest beef producer and consumer.
