On December 10th, one of us two has the responsibility of governing the next four years and has to show if he is prepared, if he has the character, and if he has the responsibility or not. Javier Mele's approach is more combative, more shock therapy. He's known for pulling out chainsaws on stage, a not-so-subtle symbol of his government plans. The former TV pundit has been compared to ex-US President Donald Trump. He's trying to harness voters who are angry about the economy. Consider this promise he made on TikTok. Inflation is over and you will be able to pay for the train and the bus without anyone helping you. With me, the decadence ends and we become power again. Long live freedom. Mele has vowed to dollarize the economy, burn down the central bank, and rails against what he calls political elite thieves. Polls are suggesting a likely photo finish. Massa pulled off a surprise win in the October 1st round. Many voters cited fears about Mele's chainsaw plan for the economy, including large public spending cuts. Over half of Argentina's population relies on social welfare payouts and subsidies. But a recent gas shortage has hit Massa's popularity, with pumps running out of supply. Whoever wins will face the key task of resuscitating Argentina's economy and will take office on December 10th.
