The incidents occurred after a soccer match between the Israeli team Maccabi and the Dutch team Ajax. Dutch authorities have denounced these acts as antisemitic. The Dutch Prime Minister has condemned the violence and promised to prosecute those responsible.

The attackers were heard chanting political slogans and anti-Israel statements. The violence occurred overnight, with some attackers justifying their actions as retribution against Israel's actions in Gaza. More than 60 individuals have been arrested following the incident, and some remain in custody as investigations continue. 

The city's mayor made a distinction between lawful protest and the criminality of the recent events, emphasizing that the violence was not an appropriate form of demonstration. Tensions had reportedly been building earlier in the week, with some Israeli fans engaging in provocative behavior such as chanting pro-IDF slogans and vandalizing a Palestinian flag.

Although the situation in Amsterdam is now under control, concerns are growing as a scheduled match between Israeli and French soccer teams approaches, raising questions about potential unrest in France.

In total, more than 60 individuals were arrested and some remain in custody. And in a press conference Friday, the city's mayor had this to say. But what happened last night is not a protest. It has nothing to do with protest or demonstration. It was crime. The violence culminated with clashes overnight after a build-up earlier this week, with Israeli fans seen here chanting pro-IDF slogans and F*** the Arabs. And others tearing down a Palestinian flag from a building. And while the situation is now under control, attention may soon shift to France, where a match between the Israeli and French soccer teams is scheduled for next week.
