The manhunt for a convicted murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania jail came to an end on Wednesday. Law enforcement took Danelo Cavalcante into custody after finding him in a rural area west of Philadelphia. Cavalcante had been on the run for 2 weeks.

They pose for photos, souvenirs of a successful mission to recapture the convicted killer after 14 days on the run. Cavalcanti was just beginning a life sentence for the murder of his girlfriend when he broke out of a Pennsylvania prison. He managed to elude search teams for two weeks before they eventually tracked him with heat sensing aircraft and moved in on his location on Wednesday morning. They were able to move in very quietly. They had the element of surprise. Cavalcanti did not realise he was surrounded until that had occurred. Even when surrounded, the escaped prisoner didn't surrender. He began to crawl through thick underbrush, taking his rifle with him as he went. Customs and Border Control teams, Bortac, had a dog with them. The dog subdued him and team members from both of those teams immediately moved in. He continued to resist but was forcibly taken into custody. Police described Cavalcanti as extremely dangerous and his escape had caused fear in this rural Pennsylvania area. Customs schools cancelled classes after he was spotted on CCTV cameras. Authorities urged residents to keep their doors locked. Thank God there were no injuries to law enforcement or to the public. We obviously became deeply concerned after the suspect was able to steal a weapon. He was apprehended this morning with no shots fired. Cavalcanti is now being transferred to a state prison to continue serving his life sentence.
