Prime Minister Yulia Zveryadenko announced the audit, which is accompanied by the dismissal of key ministers and a set of new measures to address corruption, particularly in the energy sector.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed sanctions on two businessmen accused of orchestrating a scheme to extract kickbacks from Energoatom contracts, allegedly laundering around $100 million. The European Commission has praised Ukraine's investigation, highlighting the effectiveness of the country's anti-corruption bodies.

Ukraine is launching a massive anti-corruption audit of all state-owned companies, Prime Minister Yulia Zveryadenko announced on Thursday. It comes after allegations surfaced surrounding one of the largest state energy companies, Energoatom, who were reportedly involved in a graft scheme. The government immediately began to react. We have already approved the first decision. Yesterday, we submitted a report on the dismissal of the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Energy to the Ukrainian Parliament. Together with the Minister of Economy, we launched a set of measures to restart Energoatom. We approve a set of decisions on all state-owned companies, primarily energy-related. Earlier on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on two Ukrainian businessmen implicated in the probe. They're accused of masterminding a scheme which manipulates Energoatom contracts to extract kickbacks worth 10 to 15 percent. Investigators say the two businessmen and their network of operatives allegedly laundered around $100 million. I think it's more or less a negative, because while we have a war going on, we need to unite and invest all our money in defense. And here it happens that the money is being stolen and some business is being done on it. This is very wrong. The Ukrainian premier says corruption probes will continue across all facets of government with the aim of fully eradicating it. The European Commission noted that the investigation is proof that the country's anti-graft bodies work and praise Kiev for its efforts.
