CBS News reporter Katie Weiss joining us live in New Orleans right now. So, Katie, what are you seeing there? Well, while Customs and Border Patrol won't quite confirm with us yet about the details of this operation here on the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast today, I went all around the city of New Orleans just to get a lay of the land and see if there were federal agents on the ground. And, indeed, I did see a few federal agents in the tourist district of the French Quarter right on Canal Street, which is the most bustling tourist area of the city. The federal agents didn't appear to be making any arrests or anything. It appeared as though they were kind of getting into position here for potential assistance. They would not talk about what they were here for, but it was certainly interesting to see that police presence starting to grow already. As we know that 250 federal agents are expected to arrive here. They were expected to begin as early as yesterday. So we are expecting over the next few weeks for this operation to continue. We know that they have a potential goal of up to 5,000 arrests. One thing that I thought was interesting, though, was that the city appeared very subdued today. Jackson Square, which is also a very popular area of the French Quarter, usually bustling with vendors, there was no one there. It was almost like a ghost town, almost as if many people had decided just to stay home and not be around to wait around for any federal agents. Juliette? Yeah, that's kind of my next question. What are you hearing from them? Are they reacting to plans of a federal surge in their own area? Sure. Well, there's been mixed reactions, of course. State leaders have been very excited to see and welcome these agents here to the Big Easy, saying that they welcome this swap-sweep operation. However, many locals and activists are frustrated and upset about it. Some business owners are concerned that it could impact their business and people wanting to come and buy things from them, as we saw with no vendors today. And then even last night, there was a huge protest. Despite pouring down rain, folks marched up to City Hall to voice their opposition. Take a listen. We don't support ICE coming in, coming to our campuses, coming to our community, coming to our cities and taking our neighbors, our friends, our classmates off the street. And one local activist organization plans to hold virtual meetings every night via social media for anyone here in the area who wants to learn more about their rights, if in case they do come across any federal agents. They say that they're having these meetings and protests virtually now to protect people and prevent them from having to leave their homes. Juliette? Katie Weiss. Katie, thank you.
