Ten survivors are receiving treatment for multiple injuries at Quang Ninh General Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. The Prime Minister has called for an investigation into the incident and maritime safety procedures, as authorities urge tourists to use regulated cruise operators in the popular region.

In the relative calm after the storm came the desperate search for survivors. Some were pulled from the water, dozens of others remained trapped inside a sunken tourist boat. 53 people, all Vietnamese, were on board the Vinh Sang, one of the hundreds offering cruises through Halong Bay. The vessel was returning from Dao Go, one of 1,600 islands in the region, when it got into trouble. This vision, taken nearby, shows the strong winds, heavy rainfall and hail that has been lashing the region as a tropical storm approaching. I lost contact with my son, my husband and my friend's whole family, this woman said. She was among the few saved following the capsize. There is so little air left, there is a small chance of surviving, she pleaded with rescuers to keep searching. A 14-year-old boy rescued reportedly spent four hours in an air pocket within a sunken cabin. Ten survivors are being treated in the trauma ward of Quang Ninh General Hospital. The patients suffer from multiple injuries on their limbs and their bodies, this doctor described. They're in stable conditions. Ambulances lined the shore waiting for other possible survivors, but as the ship was towed in and righted, no one else was found alive. The Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into the incident and maritime safety procedures.
