Thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators have marched through London to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

A counter-protest by pro-Israel Enough is Enough also went ahead at Pall Mall with police officers and barriers separating the two groups.

Thousands of pro-Palestine supporters have taken to the streets in London in a march to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The peaceful demonstration moved along Whitehall, ending in Hyde Park, marking the latest national protest in a series of events aimed at highlighting the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This march came in the wake of new concerns arising from the conflict, including the recent alarming discovery of a mass grave at Al-Nasr Hospital and significant events at universities in the United States, amplifying the dialogue around the issue on a global scale.

The march in London saw participation from a diverse group of demonstrators, including students who expressed their increasing commitment to the cause. This demonstration underscores the growing international support for the Palestinian people and the rising concern over the situation in Gaza. Parallel to the pro-Palestine march, there was a counter-protest by the pro-Israel group, Enough is Enough, held at Pall Mall. The presence of police officers and barriers ensured that the two groups remained separated, preventing direct confrontations.

The event in London attracted attention to various perspectives on the conflict, including the cancellation of a march by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism, which cited concerns for the safety of Jewish participants. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign addressed criticisms, highlighting the difficulty in distinguishing between anti-Semitism and legitimate criticism of the state of Israel. This, according to Benjamin, head of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, is a tactic frequently employed internationally to silence Palestinian voices and their advocates.

The pro-Palestinian demonstration in Hyde Park concluded with a message of resilience and continuation of their activism, signaling that this, their 13th national protest in the city, is not the last. The organizers and participants remain committed to advocating for Gaza and opposing the war through peaceful protest and solidarity actions.

So this latest march now setting off along Whitehall, its destination Hyde Park, as always concerns about the latest phases of the war in Gaza, the potential for a full-scale assault on Rafa. This is as well the first march since the discovery of that mass grave at Al-Nasr Hospital and the first since the dramatic scenes we have seen at campuses in the United States. We spoke to some students here a short while ago. We are so proud of it, to be honest this builds more strength among students and I think it's getting huge, it's getting spread in the whole states and around the world and it's making everything more important and it's so, so important. The campaign against anti-Semitism was also scheduled to be holding a march or what it called a walk-together event at the same time, it pulled that off, it said for fear of hostile actors and the safety of Jews at the same time. I put those points to the head of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Benjamin. This tactic of conflating anti-Semitism with legitimate criticism of the state of Israel is a very, very familiar one and is used globally by Israel to silence Palestinian voices and those who are advocating for Palestinian rights. Another counter-protest by a pro-Israel group did take place though, a group calling itself Enough is Enough stationed in a static demonstration alongside the pro-Palestinian march route. Police concentrated at that area and kept both protesting groups apart from each other, the pro-Palestinian group then ending up here in Hyde Park for their rally. They say that this, the 13th such national protest in London, is the latest but certainly not the last. They intend to continue with this action in support of Gaza and against the war.
