Toilets have been washed away, exposing people to waterborne diseases. Elden Dazigaya was among those selling food at the market that day, when the heavy rains started to pour. Sheltering in a nearby house, she watched the disaster unfold. Some people decided to leave in the rain, even with their children and all the things they'd bought at the market, all their goods. They drowned with everything in the water, and died right there with their whole family. Seven of her relatives died that day. Her own children are still missing. We could not find their bodies, so we started mourning. My house has vanished. I have nothing left, not even underwear. And my older brother's house is gone too. And thousands are still missing, and their bodies decomposing under the rubble. Two weeks after the devastation swept away hundreds of lives, rescue workers say they are still overwhelmed by the sheer number of corpses to be recovered. They face a long, grim task of digging up the dead and identifying them to be mourned by their loved ones.
