A quorum has not been established. But without enough Democrats in town for the vote, the Texas Republican House Speaker warned. There will be consequences. The Democrats hunkering down in Illinois aren't worried about GOP threats like arrest or expulsion from the legislature. I don't have a single constituent that likes the idea of going in on election day and already knowing the outcome of the election, because politicians picked you, as opposed to you picking your politicians. Back in Austin, Republican State Representative Carl Temper, who sits on the panel that drew the new map, says it better represents GOP dominance in Texas. Democrats, he says, are just performing. You know, it's a little bit of a tantrum. These maps are really just a reflection of the voting trends of the people of Texas. What would be your message to your Democratic colleagues who left town? We still love you. We want to see you back in Texas. But the Democrats say, not yet. I think our goal is to pressure blue states who have a Democratic trifecta to threaten retaliation and maybe even move forward with that retaliation, because if one side is gonna cheat, all bets are off. But there are few states with total Democratic control that could act.
