A man has been arrested and another is on the run after a teenager was stabbed at a Melbourne bus stop. Police believe it was one of two alleged assaults carried out by the pair in a matter of hours.

A 16-year-old teenager was seriously injured after being stabbed while waiting at a bus stop in Parkville, Melbourne. Police allege that two people approached the teenager, stabbed him, and assaulted him again as he tried to escape. The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries. 

Investigators believe the same pair may be responsible for an earlier assault on a man in his 70s at Parkmore Shopping Centre, after he intervened in a suspected theft. A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incidents and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are seeking a second person as their investigation continues.

This afternoon, investigators were spotted bagging potential evidence in a residential street a few blocks away. Police have told 10 News First that scene is linked to the bus stop stabbing. You just can't go anywhere with it. You don't know what will happen. Police believe the pair allegedly behind that attack may be responsible for assaulting a man in his 70s earlier that evening at Parkmore Shopping Centre. The man had intervened when they allegedly tried to leave a store with suspected stolen items. He was taken to hospital. In a statement, the shopping centre said, we're assisting police with their investigation and, as always, the safety of our customers, retailers and staff is our number one priority. A 19-year-old man has been arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He will be interviewed at a later stage. Police would like to speak to a second person.
