A significant weather system is affecting the Northeast, bringing heavy rain and high winds to the region. Wind gusts have reached 70 to 90 mph in higher elevations, particularly in exposed coastal and mountainous areas. Major cities from Boston to New York to Washington, DC are experiencing gusts between 40 and 60 mph, with Nantucket facing stronger winds due to its coastal location.

Buffalo is also seeing blowing snow from Canada over Lake Erie, creating hazardous conditions along I-90. The severe weather is expected to continue into the following day, though wind intensity is forecast to gradually decrease.

You're more exposed, so you've got that wind coming right off the water. Even Buffalo seeing some of that big snow from Canada right over Lake Erie. So you have blowing snow that could be an issue for folks along I-90. So just a messy day we go into tomorrow. There's still a little wind energy left, but it's trying to vacate the premises.
