The competition, organized by the British Guild of Fine Food since 1988, was held in Switzerland for the first time and featured over 5,000 cheeses from various countries.

A panel of 265 judges evaluated entries from around the world, including Japan, Slovakia, the USA, the Netherlands, and Britain. Cheeses were assessed based on appearance, aroma, and flavor. The next edition of the contest is scheduled to take place in Cordoba, Spain.

It picked up the award for World Cheese Champion 2025. It is a great honour and I am simply very moved. 265 judges tasted more than 5,000 cheeses from all over the world. The top 14 included cheeses from Japan, Slovakia, the USA and the Netherlands, as well as three British entries. But what do judges look for when they have so many different varieties? First of all, we're looking at the visual appearance of the cheese, so how it looks like from the inside and outside. Then what I'm actually looking at, the second step, is the nose, all the aromas that the cheese is actually giving us. And then thirdly, of course, the flavours. This was the first time that the competition created by the British Guild of Fine Food in 1988 had been held in Switzerland. The next edition of the contest will be held in Cordoba, Spain.
