Ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has displaced over 12 million people, with recent attacks forcing an additional 140,000 to flee areas around Kordofan and al-Fashir. Survivors report witnessing executions of unarmed civilians and describe harrowing escapes, often arriving at camps with nothing after days of walking without food or water.

Aid agencies highlight severe shortages, with the UN's International Organization for Migration receiving less than 10% of its funding appeal for Sudan. Conditions in displacement camps are dire, with only a fraction of people having reliable access to water, prompting many to risk further displacement by heading toward Chad or Libya.

More than 12 million Sudanese have been forced from their homes, victims of nearly two years of war between the army and the rapid support forces. Since October, another 140,000 have fled attacks around Kordofan and al-Fasher. We fled al-Fasher towards Tawila. After the incidents, we witnessed many scenes. Unarmed civilians were being executed right there in the streets. Many citizens were killed. There are children here who made it to Tawila. Their mothers died. They disappeared without a trace. We were around 250 people moving at the same time. All of a sudden, they executed some of the people among us, killed part of our group right there. Then one of them shouted at us, run, run. And as soon as we started running, he opened fire with a machine gun. Tak, tak, tak, tak, bullets everywhere. You just ran for your life. If you hesitated for even a second, that was it, you'd die. Those who made it out say they arrived with nothing. They took everything, your belongings, your money. They left you with nothing, not even a phone, and forced you to keep walking. We walked for four days straight, suffering from hunger and thirst. Aid agencies say the needs are great. And that they're running out of supplies. The UN's International Organization for Migration says its $229 million appeal for Sudan has received less than 10% of the funding this year. Sudan is the world's biggest displacement crisis, but the funding, the resources that are available to support people in need are nowhere close to the needs. In Tawila, only 1 in 10 people in camps had reliable access to water. And that's before the latest influx. With little help available, many are heading west to Chad or north to Libya, facing repeated displacement and risking their lives in the process.
