The government shutdown has reached its 42nd day, resulting in missed paychecks and widespread disruptions, including thousands of flight cancellations and delays. Lawmakers are expected to vote soon on a funding package, with Democrats seeking to include an amendment for extended health insurance tax credits, though this is unlikely to occur until a final deal is reached.

Hundreds of representatives have been gone for nearly eight weeks. It was an unusual rare silencing of the speaker's gavel. Johnson has defended the move. Once they're back in session first order of business is to have a vote to reopen the government. Democrats are pushing for an amendment in the deal that would extend health insurance tax credits for three years. That likely won't happen until a deal is final. Federal workers and Americans are feeling the pain as flight cuts and frustrations increase.
