If you've been living under a rock for the last nine years, you've probably missed the hype around Netflix's Stranger Things. The show's fans, though, are determined to see out the fifth and final season in style, with many of them having grown up alongside it. I'm 21, so the season started when I was about sixth grade, so I was the same age as the characters when it started, so it's definitely been a huge part of my life. From a cycling event in Los Angeles in homage to the show's bike-riding characters to an absolute raft of merchandise from watches to clothing to food and more, and even a play based on the property that's now running on both Broadway and the West End in London, it's not hard to see how Stranger Things netted Netflix two million new subscribers and a billion dollars in revenue since 2020. In fact, fans have more than enough to distract them from the ending of the show they love. I'm just seeing how everything wraps up, like, is it actually going to wrap up, are we going to get left with a little bit of a cliffhanger, like, this is the end, or is it? That's one question we can answer, because even while Stranger Things may be ending, there are at least two more shows set in the same universe waiting in the wings. There's an animated show that'll sort of be the first thing out of the gate, the live action spin-off is something we can't talk about yet, but soon, and again, it's not a continuation of the story of Hawkins or these characters, but it's still in the universe of Stranger Things, it still connects, but it's very much its own thing with its new characters, a new mythology. Following Wednesday's release of the first four episodes of the final season, fans will have to wait until Christmas for the next three before the grand finale.
