A stuck pattern will bring heavy rain and the chance of flooding from the Midwest and mid-Atlantic this weekend. Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Norfolk could each experience localized flooding.

Midwestern United States

The Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions are facing a period of persistent thunderstorms, with several rounds of storms forecast to affect areas such as Iowa, the upper Midwest, and parts of the Northern Plains. These storms are expected to continue into the coming days, maintaining a pattern of wet weather and potential flooding, particularly in areas already saturated from previous rainfall.

Travel disruptions, especially around major airports like Chicago, are likely to persist due to the ongoing storm activity. The Northeast, including New York City and New England, may also experience additional storms as the region continues to recover from recent flooding. The unsettled weather pattern is expected to last into the start of the new work week.

Soggy forecast ahead for Midwest, Mid-Atlantic this weekend

This is a super saturated area at this point. And here's the problem. It's not just one round of thunderstorms today. We have multiple rounds of thunderstorms. So here's three, four o'clock in the afternoon, not the entire state, but areas in and around Des Moines, seeing some more thunderstorms that continue into the overnight hours. And then we're watching this complex of thunderstorms move out of Nebraska into parts of Northern Kansas. And then once again, move into Iowa by tomorrow morning. So could we very well be tracking more storms just like what we're seeing today, tomorrow morning, same timing, right? This is not the end for areas like Iowa, parts of the upper Midwest. We're stuck in this pattern, and at least the short term, right? Where we've got the big ridge of high pressure that's sitting to our south and storm, and the storm track just to the north of that. Here's tomorrow. You see Iowa included, parts of the upper Midwest, and over into the Northern Plains. And then even areas, say in New England, could be seeing more storms down into the Northeast, where New York City still recovering from the flooding that we saw last week in areas in New York State. Here's the timing, because we start off with storms, Iowa, once again tomorrow, but we also have to watch portions of the Mid-South. That's gonna be for the early part of the afternoon. Chicago, keep a close eye on any of, say, travel plans in and around Chicago, because we could be seeing disruptions at the airport. That's been a big theme as of late, right? We've had so many airport delays and cancellations for so many of our major airports. And Sunday into Monday, now we're starting off the new work week, and we're still watching storms in the same area.
