ABC 10 News reporter Jane Kim takes us there here at the San Diego Pride Parade, where people are here for the energy and colors, along with themes of diversity and inclusion, including one spectator who says she's here to make meaningful connections to the beat of music and the roaring of cheers. Thousands of people marched to the streets of Hillcrest, each corner of University Avenue covered with the colors of the breakup. I don't have many friends that are gay like me, so it's very nice to come to something like this where I can find someone who's going to just be like, Hey, come join me. Come stand with me. And that's a lot of what you're gonna find at pride. Juliet Allen is in her first San Diego pride watching the parade from the curb. She drove down from Santa Ana to make friendships with others in the crowd. This is something that's so big that it's just gonna make you feel like you have to be involved. You like you're included in all of it because everybody's so friendly and nice and involving, and they just want you where they are. And I love that the crowd stretching as far as you could see people showing up to celebrate unity and diversity. Community is so important, and I think that when we're around other people who celebrate us and accept us who we are reminds us that it's okay to do what we want to do. And that type of connection and, like reminders and affiliation is, I think, like of the utmost necessity. This year's theme unbreakable pride unshakable power. That's something Stephanie Peck can get behind. Stephanie says. Cultivating inclusive environments is particularly important in a divisive political climate. Things like this really, like, remind us, you know how important and how happy people could be when they're just themselves and in our current climate, the best anything we could do to really, like, expose and elevate that, especially now feels really, really important. As for Juliet, she says her mom always encouraged Juliet to be herself no matter what. And that's part of what prides about having the courage to never hide who you are.
