"CBS Mornings" exclusively reveals select nominees for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, with big names featured across Best Pop, Best Country and Best Album categories.

MTV has revealed some of the nominees for the upcoming 2025 Video Music Awards. In the best pop artist category, nominees include Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Justin Bieber, Lorde, Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, and Tate McRae. The best country category features Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson with Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, and Morgan Wallen. For best album, the nominees are Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, and The Weeknd.

This year marks the first time country music has its own category at the VMAs, reflecting the genre's growing influence in mainstream music. The full list of nominations is available on MTV's website, and the awards ceremony will be broadcast on CBS, MTV, and Paramount Plus.

Yeah, man, so best pop artist has a lot of heavy hitters this year What do you think of the nominees especially that they've sort of split this category up? It's so funny because I was just thinking about this This this category is like the old guard of pop the legends the people who have been on MTV that we've been loving for years I mean Justin Bieber's first, you know performance in MTV was in 2010 when he did baby And then you've got new artists like Tate McRae and of course Sabrina Carpenter who is actually who I think is gonna take home This VMA. I mean last year. I got my espresso right here this it was all So, I think Sabrina Carpenter might take that one home But it's it's a category and again some of those VMA legends and some of those new upstarts like Tate McRae that we love Yeah, and she's still on a roll. Let's go to country because when they were do the country nominees Dometi I was saying. Yep. Yep. Yeah, we all were we're like this is probably a Very tough category. What are you thinking? Well, I heard you a big jelly roll fan We're liking that way. Yeah, because I think country has really had an explosion I think I talked about this with you before right here on a CBS blad where where country is really seeing this resurgence in pop Cultural and in the zeitgeist and I think it's a lot of it is lent to you know Beyonce what she's got going but then Artists like Chris Stapleton who have been killing it for so long if you look at this music video think I'm in love with you this is one of the most heartfelt like you got to check out this video the story telling all of this and This is the first time that country music is actually being awarded at the VMAs now country artists have won before But this is the first category, which I don't know how this is the first time Will you think about how rich the storytelling and the music videos are? No Sure, we got to get going but best album one of the most coveted categories who do you think is gonna take it? For best album, it's the toss-up for me between Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar. I'm rooting for Kendrick G and X Nate I don't know if you're Kendrick guy like I Don't see my man. Thank you very much bunny too, though.
