Meanwhile, the top diplomats from G7 countries are meeting for a second day in Canada, as tensions between the U.S. and its traditional allies rise over trade, defense spending and uncertainty over President Trump's efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is there on behalf of the United States, so let's bring in CBS News reporter Olivia Gazis, who is joining me from Washington, to talk about it. So, Olivia, give us a sense of the big takeaways from yesterday, and what are we expecting from today's meetings? Sure. Good morning, Vlad. Great to see you. So, that event yesterday was a working dinner on global peace and security, where, unfortunately, the press was not invited. But you can reasonably expect that the key topics there were the preservation of that very tenuous Gaza peace deal, now one month almost after it was struck, as well as the very stark realities on the ground in Ukraine as its war with Russia is grinding on. Those topics are going to continue to top the agenda today, with a session on Ukraine taking place this morning, and the Canadian foreign minister saying just before it that the group is going to work to leverage the G7 to get Ukraine the defense capabilities that it needs. As you know, President Zelensky has for weeks been pleading for boosted air defenses, long-range missile capabilities. Russia has been pummeling the energy infrastructure there in a move to make the winter even colder and darker for millions of Ukrainians there, as that conflict continues into, if you can believe it, what will be its fourth year. So a real push from the G7 leaders in order to shore up Ukrainian defenses before the winter sets in. So the president also ended trade talks with Canada last week, as you know, Olivia, over an added rant about tariffs. Have those talks resumed at all during these meetings? You can be sure the Canadians are going to try. It isn't technically Secretary Rubio's portfolio, but formal talks, as you said, are still suspended. President Trump called them offensive, that add on tariffs. And even though the prime minister of Canada has already publicly apologized and said Canada is ready to resume talks when the U.S. is, that was now almost two weeks ago. Rubio is expected to have a one-on-one meeting about an hour from now with his Canadian counterpart. And we'll see if there's a breakthrough there, because both nations really are reliant on a trade that has been really at an impasse for a long time now. Yeah, so speaking of O-Canada, the foreign minister there also invited non-G7 leaders to the meeting. How is that impacting these talks? I think I caught an abode in there, Vlad. Beyond the G7, the Canadians did invite ministers from eight other countries, including Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, and, of course, Ukraine. That was a nod to the fact that the crises the world are facing right now are really global in nature. There's a lot of differences among the major powers and opinion on how to handle them. On Ukraine, most of the group of G7 nations has favored a more muscular approach to confronting Russia, while on Gaza, a number of them also moved ahead with recognizing a Palestinian state, which is something that Secretary Rubio has said was counterproductive to preserving the peace there. Worth mentioning that this morning he already had a pull-aside with the Indian foreign minister who was invited. This, of course, is coming, as the president mentioned just this week, that the U.S. is getting close to a trade deal with India, which would be massive, of course. For sure.
