Some locals have taken it upon themselves to prevent wildfires from reaching their homes. In the town of Riano, residents weeded out dry roadsides. And in the village of Vilar de Vos, residents were seen helping firefighters battle blazes. Spanish authorities said on Monday that they are deploying the largest international aid contingency the country has ever received, including airplanes and firefighters from the EU civil protection mechanism. That's on top of the Spanish Army's 3,000 deployed troops and 50 aircraft to help firefighters.
