His 2022 concert series broke the world record for the highest grossing tour in a single year. And yet many English speakers don't know him. The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny Rabbit or whatever his name is. But here in San Juan, Bad Bunny is music royalty. Being a treasure, being an icon is what he represents, and we love that, honestly. Bad Bunny is single-handedly boosting the fortunes of his hometown, San Juan, with a recent month-long residency that brought in $200 million to a depressed local economy. And for residents, there was an extra treat. For the first nine shows, you had to show a local ID to buy a ticket. Unlike other singers who switched from Spanish to English to broaden their audiences, like Shakira and Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny still sings solo and Espanol. Alberto Nazario's restaurant has an exhibit dedicated to the man locals know as Benito, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio. Usually the crossover products like Ricky Barton and many other artists, which are wonderful, have utilized that to develop themselves. Benito has used this to develop Puerto Rico, to develop like that big tree there that he branched all over the world. But he realized that the important thing were not the branches, but his roots. Next stop, headlining the halftime show in February at the Super Bowl, the only mainland U.S. appearance he's making. He says he didn't tour the mainland out of fear that federal immigration agents would raid his shows. That has prompted a conservative backlash. The idea that you would speak in a foreign language, whether it's Spanish, Chinese, Russian at the American Super Bowl, that immediately disqualifies him from performing. His two restaurants, including this coffee shop, draw fans who make it one stop on a Bad Bunny pilgrimage. He's taken it to a whole global level, and he's done a lot of things for Puerto Rico.
