Huge crowds of anti-government protesters on Saturday encircled the Serbian state television building in downtown Belgrade to press their demand for autocratic President Aleksandar Vučić to ease his tight grip on the mainstream media and allow alternative voices.

Another major demonstration in Belgrade as tens of thousands of people took to the streets against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. The protesters say he is an authoritarian leader responsible for instigating violence in the country. Earlier on Saturday, another huge crowd turned out to show support for Vucic, who has been under pressure following two mass shootings earlier this month that killed 18 people and injured 20, most of them children. Anti-government protests also took place outside Serbian public television RTS, accusing the channel of disseminating a pro-Vucic editorial line and stirring up violence by giving airtime to war criminals. Meanwhile Vucic, in power in Serbia for 11 years, announced he was leaving the leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party, the populist trending party he has led until now. He'll be replaced by current Minister of Defense, Miloš Vucic.
