A giant, swirling storm system billowing across the South killed at least six people Thursday in central Alabama, authorities said, and spawned a tornado that shredded the walls of homes, toppled roofs and uprooted trees in Selma.

A large tornado causing major damage in the historic, Alabama, city of Selma across the southeast, this afternoon were reported so far, but lots of lots of debris to clean up around noon today, homes were left without roofs and roads were blocked back in Selma until dawn tomorrow morning. The severe weather was life-threatening and to take shelter right away.

The specialized police unit that included the five Memphis officers charged with the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols was disbanded on Saturday, as more protests took place in U.S. cities a day after harrowing video of the attack was released. It followed a call from President Joe Biden to the Nichols family, offering his support.
