A large car meet on Melbourne's Chapel Street resulted in reckless driving incidents, including burnouts and dangerous stunts near busy restaurants and bars. While organisers claimed only a small number of attendees engaged in hooning, police received numerous complaints from residents and are now reviewing footage to identify offenders.

No arrests were made during the event, but authorities have warned that those responsible for illegal behaviour may still be prosecuted. Local businesses are calling for increased police presence to manage future gatherings and ensure public safety.

Some struggle to stay upright as it accelerates, one person jumping off. One car drives along with someone on the bonnet. Anybody who thinks that they can go out and behave in such a cavalier fashion should be absolutely condemned. Hundreds of drivers met up on Chapel Street last night to show off their cars as they drove chap laps. We didn't condone any of the burnouts or, yeah, sort of the stupid behaviour. The main idea was it, of it, was to, yeah, just sort of bring back the car community together. Organisers say it was only a small number of drivers hooning. It is a lot of trust. We can't stop cars from doing the wrong thing. We've asked them and if they're going to continue to do the wrong thing, all repercussions are back on them. Police say they got an influx of calls from residents annoyed by the cars. I've lived here for the last three years but I recently just moved because this sort of stuff's becoming more and more common. No arrests were made last night but police warn anyone who was doing the wrong thing hasn't escaped the consequences. Officers will be reviewing footage and identifying offenders. They are sure to get a knock on the door or something in the mail. Businesses are pushing for more prominent policing along the Strip. Chap laps are as old as Chapel Street itself.
