Police officers in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, were involved in a fatal shooting while responding to a report of stalking filed by a local woman. When officers arrived to check on the woman, her ex-boyfriend reportedly emerged from nearby cornfields and opened fire, resulting in a prolonged exchange of gunfire.

Three officers were killed in the incident, which has deeply affected the low-crime community. Some officers were airlifted from the scene, and authorities are continuing to investigate, with further details expected from an upcoming press conference.

Well, this started with a police report that was reportedly filed by the woman who lived on this property. She had said to authorities that her ex-boyfriend had been stalking the residents. So yesterday, when the gunfire was exchanged, the gunfight that played out here, officers were here to do a check in with the woman. Reportedly, then the ex-boyfriend emerged from nearby cornfields and opened fire. Now, this was not a short exchange here. This was a very sustained round of gunfire exchange between police officers and this ex-boyfriend, tragically killing three of those officers. But this is something that when neighbors were asked about what happened, they said that they thought this would never end. They thought that this was going to go on forever. And this is a small community that is, understandably, quite shaken by this unfolding of events. It's a low crime rate in this area. Neighbors know neighbors here. But yesterday, a very dramatic scene. Some of the officers airlifted a heavy police presence in the aftermath of that shooting.
