The sergeant is violently assaulted, in what the police prosecutor has described as a very confronting situation. Telling Burwood Court, the officer would have believed he was in a fight for his life, before a bystander eventually rushed to his aid. The CCTV from inside the hotel was played to the court, with the 33-year-old facing a maximum 7 years prison for assaulting a police officer, and 7 years for being armed with intent to commit a serious offence. For the assault, in which Duggan was yelling, I'm going to kill you, f***ing shoot me, shoot me, taking hold of the officer from behind, pushing the pen into the officer's face, saying f***ing kill me, f***ing shoot me. His defence team said he had a meltdown over a broken pool table he was fixated on, and was not targeting a police officer, but whoever was there at the time. He was eventually restrained and sedated. Would you like to issue an apology to the officer? Duggan's defence team said he has no criminal record, has never taken drugs, and has a diagnosis of autism. They successfully fought to have his charges dismissed under the Mental Health Act.
