Hundreds of thousands of Afghans are facing a humanitarian crisis, after being expelled from Pakistan. A crackdown on undocumented migrants has forced many to become refugees in their own country.

Far away from home with no access to the essentials, this makeshift camp in Afghanistan is now sheltering hundreds of thousands of Afghans expelled from Pakistan. The nylon tents will do little to protect the displaced with winter fast approaching and a shortage of food, fuel and medicine. This is not a matter of 10 people or 100 people. This is a matter of 1.8 million people. It is not without problems and action is needed. Winter is coming and I'm sure that the immigrants are having many problems, their medicine and health issues, their food issues and issues of winter and cold. We have many problems ahead and this is a very big challenge for the Islamic Emirates. Pakistan's crackdown on undocumented migrants has affected some 1.8 million Afghans. Mobat says it's a direct response to an increase in violent attacks which officials have blamed largely on immigrants from Afghanistan. Many of those forced to leave had lives and livelihoods in Pakistan but have been crossing into Afghanistan in droves since the November 1st deadline. The UN estimates more than 340,000 Afghans have left Pakistan since then. The need for the immediate shelter because most of them have nowhere safe to go and this means a serious risk especially for the women and children because now they are living under tents, under the open skies. Beside this, most of the people arriving in here, you know, the need for the psychosocial support, the need for the nutrition support and also the need for primary healthcare support. So these are the prioritized needs. Most of the people do not have because they lost everything including their homes, properties and belongings and now they are starting anew from zero. The WHO has set up health facilities for Afghans returning through the border crossing at Torkham in northwestern Pakistan and Chaman in the southwest but say there's an urgent need for at least 10 million dollars in humanitarian aid to support them. Pakistan officials are appealing to the global community for assistance while the refugees work the rebuild. Rumeysa Chowdhary, TRT World.
