Hezbollah hasn't responded to a single Israeli strike for nearly a year. For a movement built on deterrence, this is unprecedented and reveals something deeper than just a military force. The 2024 war hit Hezbollah's infrastructure but also pierced its doctrine, the layers of security meant to shield leaders and commanders, and the belief that its model could survive the Israeli war machine. Israel managed to kill Hezbollah members and leaders from air and also by planting explosives inside communication pages, an infiltration the group neither detected nor expected. So now Hezbollah faces a deeper question. Is rebuilding its capacity enough or the movement needs to rethink its tools and methods of confrontation altogether? Forces familiar with the organization say the current leadership is adopting a more institutional cost-calculating approach. The reality that using force today carries consequences Lebanon may not withstand. And the regional dimension is critical. After absorbing heavy losses in 2024, Hezbollah watched Iran come under fire in the 12-day war in June. Within the Iran-led axis, the dilemma becomes sharper. Escalate and risk collapse, oppose and rethink. Since the ceasefire, Israel has struck repeatedly. Hezbollah has issued warnings, called on the government to act and held fire. The crisis is not about capability. The group can rebuild drones, rockets, networks, it always has. The crisis is about willingness, whether using those tools serves its strategic survival. For critics, it proves that Hezbollah's weapons have lost their efficacy and that the time has come to disarm the group altogether. For supporters, restrain is a necessary shield, preventing Israel from dragging Lebanon into a war it cannot endure. But both agree this is a turning point. Hezbollah says disarmament north of the Litani River is off the table, but the real question is whether the group can sustain another war with Israel. And Israel warns that if Lebanon cannot enforce disarmament, it will impose it itself. Hezbollah is now at a very sensitive crossroads. Push to recover and risk a new war or accept the new status quo built around disarmament without any clear guarantees on how the day after would look like.
