An off-duty Yonkers police officer was struck by a car while crossing East Grassy Sprain Road near Tuckahoe Road, an incident captured on exclusive video. The accident occurred just after 9 p.m., and the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene as police investigated.

Authorities report that the officer, whose name has not been released, was transported to Westchester Medical Center and is now recovering in stable condition. Local residents have raised concerns about the safety of the intersection, suggesting that infrastructure improvements could help prevent future accidents. Police are treating the incident as an accident with no criminal elements involved.

Well, the accident happened right in this area and people were speaking with say they're not surprised. It's a busy area and it's darker earlier. The area of Tuckahoe Road and East Grassy Sprain Road in Yonkers is very busy throughout the day and it can be treacherous at night. This exclusive News 12 video from just after nine Thursday night shows a person crossing East Grassy Sprain Road. That pedestrian is an off duty Yonkers police officer. As he was crossing, the driver of a silver car is seen turning from Tuckahoe Road onto East Grassy Sprain and strikes the officer. Police say the driver did stay on the scene as investigators work the area and that there does not appear to be any criminal elements to the accident. The officer, whose name is not being released, was taken to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition. Police could be seen going into the hospital and they tell News 12 the officer is now recovering from his injuries. People we spoke with say the area could use some safety upgrades. The way that we reduce those accidents is by making the physical infrastructure safe for everybody, especially in an area that's heavily populated like this and police tell us they are handling this as simply an accident.
