Northeastern United States

A storm system is expected to impact the Northeastern United States with a combination of wind, rain, snow, and some freezing rain. While significant freezing rain is not anticipated, even small amounts could cause hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks, particularly in northern areas such as Maine and Vermont.

Snowfall totals of 5 to 8 inches are forecast for parts of Maine, upstate New York, and the Adirondacks, benefiting ski resorts preparing to open. Rain and freezing rain may mix in some regions, with a medium chance of ice accumulation in northern Vermont, and there is also a slight risk of severe storms in western Pennsylvania, potentially affecting weekend travel.

But thankfully we're not calling for a lot of freezing rain, but still even just a little bit can cause problems on the roads on your sidewalks and yes there will be some snow a little bit more toward the north into places like Maine. So as we check on your snowfall forecast, note the purple. We do have lighter purple indicating 5 to 8 inches. Good news coming in the wake of what we just saw several days ago. Ski resorts trying to build up that base for opening in the next couple of weeks. Notice that there will be some snow across upstate New York and even across the Adirondacks. But unfortunately there will be that rain and freezing rain mixing in as well. As you can see, the freezing rain aspect of it, a quarter to a half an inch. Of course, a half an inch would be really quite devastating and very damaging to our trees. They break off and cause power outages, but as far as your actual chance of seeing that kind of ice, it's not really on the high side. It's a medium chance for actually seeing 110th of an inch of ice or more in some of these areas across the northern parts of Vermont. So here's look at the rainfall as well, affecting us from Boston down towards New York City. Unfortunately, with this next system, there will also be that chance. A slight chance we could see some severe storms breaking out, especially in the western side of Pennsylvania. But Lynette, as you can see all these colors, they may be pretty, but not so pretty when it comes to the weather, especially if you're trying to do some traveling over the weekend.
