But the festive scenes were a welcome distraction from Nigeria's continuing security crisis, marked by kidnappings and attacks in recent months. We chose to be happy. But it doesn't mean that we don't understand what is happening. So we don't feel good that all the insecurity things are going on and people are facing so much difficulties. But then what can we do? By time we have to trust in God and also try to feel the moment while we pray for a better future. Nigerians have not only been battling the rising security issues, but also a cost of living crisis. Despite these challenges, many of those coming to see the Christmas lights with family and friends were determined to celebrate. There is a need for people to make memories in respect of how insecure the country is because we never can tell where we are heading to. Inasmuch we live in the country, it's our country, we don't have an option to come out. No matter how unsecure the place is, we still need to come out just to make ourselves happy. Armed attacks and kidnappings have particularly affected Nigeria's northern regions. But in Lagos, the Christmas lights are likely to shine on undisturbed.
