Overnight, dozens of emergency vehicles accompanied the body of 20-year-old Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom through downtown Washington as National Guard troops lined the streets to salute one of their own. Beckstrom's father, Gary, mourned his daughter on social media, writing, My baby girl has passed to glory. It's a tragedy. Marcy Vaughn worked with Beckstrom at a West Virginia behavioral health center. Her co-workers will tell you that she had a great sense of humor. You know, she liked to laugh, and she loved being a part of the community. U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe remains in critical condition as a coast-to-coast investigation intensifies. Officials tell CBS News the 29-year-old suspect traveled 2,800 miles from northwest Washington state to northwest Washington, D.C., with a loaded revolver. The weapon, they said, is registered to a deceased man in Washington state. The suspect now faces first-degree murder charges. There are certainly many more charges to come, but we are upgrading the initial charges. Rakhnamala Lokenwal served for eight years on a CIA-backed zero-unit team, an Afghan paramilitary unit notorious for intense combat and high-risk raids. Former Afghan Commander Lieutenant General Sami Sadat told CBS News the suspect's family faced serious threats from the Taliban in their native coast province, adding the suspect maintained a clean record, though he suffered from PTSD. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Lokenwal entered the U.S. through a Biden-era program dubbed Operation Allies Welcome. CBS News has obtained this photo taken of him when he first entered the country. Moments ago, the West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrissey told us that Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe is still fighting for his life. Before the shooting, about 170 members of the West Virginia National Guard had volunteered to stay in D.C. to complete this mission. The governor says not one has stepped back even after the attack.
