Tampa International Airport has experienced major travel disruptions, with over half of its flights delayed or canceled. On the reported day, 217 out of 537 flights were delayed and 57 were canceled, leaving many passengers stranded and uncertain about their travel plans.

Travel experts attribute the ongoing issues to a combination of the government shutdown and a pre-existing shortage of air traffic controllers. Even after the shutdown ends, delays are expected to continue as airlines work to restore normal operations. Passengers are advised to arrive early, monitor flight statuses, and be aware of their rights regarding cancellations and rebooking.

Meanwhile, until a deal is reached, the shutdown will continue to cause travel nightmares. Right now, we're seeing more and more flights canceled or delayed, and Tampa International is no exception. Yes, certainly not. Tonight, more than half of TPA's flights have been disrupted, leaving passengers scrambling and travel plans in limbo this weekend. FOX 13's Jennifer Vegas joins us now live from the newsroom, and Jennifer, there's a warning tonight from travel experts. Yeah, Brianna, travel expert Pete Trebuco says even if the government shutdown concludes flight passengers at the top 40 airports in the nation will continue feeling the effects for some time. Tonight, many stressed and anxious passengers at Tampa International Airport. Flight boards were covered in red letters, with 217 of 537 flights delayed, 57 canceled. As a result, airport lobby seats were filled with people waiting and figuring out their next move. Pete Trebuco is a former pilot and travel and navigation expert. He says the country was already facing an air traffic controller shortage, so even when the government reopens, things will not snap right back to normal. It's kind of like if there's an accident on the road and it needs to be cleared, and even if you're there and the accident is cleared, all those cars and trucks need to go through, which means now the airlines are going to have to do the same thing and try to add flights and try to get it all coordinated. So even after this is all settled and done, it's still going to be an issue. And if you're flying anytime soon, Trebuco encourages you to get to the airport early, keep up to date with your flight status and consider flight insurance.
