One of Napoléon Bonaparte’s felt hats has been sold for €1.9M at a French auction. According to the auctioneers, the famed ruler was known for wearing his hats at a different angle from styles at the time.

Auctioneers said the way Napoleon wore his hat was what made him stand out. The way he was wearing the hat was very different from the other person in this period. So he didn't wear it that way, he wore it in that way. So everybody can recognise Napoleon in battlefields, any place at 500 metres from. So this is Napoleon, that is why he put this hat, but it's a very simple hat. French industrialist Jean-Louis Noisier spent more than half a century assembling the collection before his death last year, including a silver plate looted from Napoleon's carriage after his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. There's no limits because passion has no limits. The hat, with a three-colour rosette representing France's colours, is said to be from the First Empire in around 1810.
