A childcare worker and mother with a beaming smile and a vibrant life ahead. But it was cruelly snatched away in the murderous rage of Daniel Billings. The 30-year-old today pleaded guilty to killing Molly Ticehurst at the local court in her hometown of Forbes. Molly's family and friends embracing outside court wearing shirts saying she matters. Every week I'm thankful for support from the people of Forbes but today is a special day and I really appreciate the support from the people of Forbes. Molly's murder on April 22 last year shocked the nation. Daniel Billings had earlier been charged with raping the 28-year-old but was granted bail. A fortnight later he killed Molly in her home. Climbing through her window and stabbing her more than a dozen times Billings also admitted to killing Molly's puppy. The murderer of Molly Ticehurst was a shocking shocking crime and now today we can officially call this man for what he is and that is a murderer. Distressing phone conversations between the pair were today released by the court. I will come in the middle of the night Billings said. I will get to you if it is the last thing I do. The police won't stop me. I will get to you quicker than they will. It's like feeling like a sitting duck waiting for something really quite horrendous to happen and to have no agency in being able to prevent that. But Molly's story became the driving force behind new bail laws in New South Wales. We now have the strongest laws in the country we believe when it comes to accessing bail for those who are charged with very serious domestic violence offences. The Premier apologising that those laws weren't in place sooner for Molly. Sarah Navon joins me now at the desk with more on this story. Sarah, the Nation's Attorney-General was met today to discuss bail laws so will this change the state's stance on DV offences? Sandra, this meeting did discuss softening bail laws but afterwards the New South Wales Attorney-General Michael Daly said that he's confident that our state has the settings right. So in June last year Molly's death prompted an overhaul of laws in relation to domestic violence bail. This included electronic monitoring to give real-time information on the movements of alleged serious offenders which can provide a critical warning system for victim survivors. But domestic violence New South Wales still says the mountain of cases means the sector is always in need of greater funding with some services working up to nine times their funded capacity and are having to turn people away.
