The Moldovan government summoned the Russian ambassador and requested an explanation, while the EU announced a 20-million-euro investment to strengthen Moldova's air defense. Security experts noted that Moldova currently lacks adequate drone defense capabilities, leaving citizens concerned until new systems are implemented.

In November alone, Moldova's airspace was breached by eight drones, the highest number since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. One drone came down on a building in the village of Kuhuresti de Jos, just 50 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. No one was hurt, and the Russian-made drone was found not to be carrying explosives, but for people like Eudokia, a Moldovan woman living in Ukraine, who fled Ukraine's Kherson region and sought refuge in her native village, the incident revived painful and distressing memories. Besides the fear felt by the villagers, the incident has left many people confused. Eudokia, for example, isn't sure what to believe. I saw it when it fell down. Of course, it's terrible. Maybe it's not the real drone, but it's still scary. People were very scared, of course. But I think it's made of cardboard, I don't know. It's different, but of course, God forbid that there is a war. I don't know how good it would be if there was peace. The drone is also the main topic of conversation between two men at the village bar. Vasile, an 81-year-old pensioner, is alarmed and hopes that the situation will not escalate. If there is a war, we will be in trouble. In two or three hours, Moldova will be taken. But we don't want that. We want peace and unity in the population. We want to live in harmony. The drone that came down in Kuhuresti-Degos was brought to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau and placed on the steps for all to see. Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador, Oleg Ozerov, and requested an explanation. Ozerov said that the incident raises many questions and asked for an investigation to be conducted. Security expert Pavel Horea believes that the Republic of Moldova currently lacks the capacity to defend itself against drones. What these authorities could do is to introduce a system based on the Romanian RoALERT model, because there must be this measure of prevention and attention to citizens regarding the danger, whether it comes from these flying drones or from drones that were detected and fell somewhere. After the drone incursions into Moldovan airspace, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kalas, announced on November 30 that the EU would invest 20 million euros in bolstering Moldova's air defence before the year is out. But until this enhanced defence system is in place, Moldova remains vulnerable to drone incursions and its citizens remain concerned about their security.
