Law enforcement agencies in Minnesota are set to undergo an external review following their response to an attack on state Senator John Hoffman, state representative Melissa Hortman, and their spouses. The review will assess the investigation and subsequent manhunt, with Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Brulee expressing support for the process and openness to identifying areas for improvement.

The review comes after internal investigations cleared officers of wrongdoing, despite public criticism regarding certain aspects of the police response. The cost of the review is estimated at nearly half a million dollars, with the state covering most of the expense and participating agencies contributing as well.

Almost five months now since state Senator John Hoffman, state representative Melissa Hortman and their spouses were attacked in the homes in their homes in the middle of the night. And now the agencies who handle that awful situation are getting an outside review of this investigation and the manhunt that followed Fox sides. Courtney Godfrey joining us with more now. So Courtney, the law enforcement agencies involved here are welcoming this. They actually want this to happen. But yes, Simone, they do. Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Brulee calling it best practice and saying he welcomes it, especially considering the media attention this case received. They cleared their officers of any wrongdoing with the recent conclusion of an internal review. But Brulee says they're open to any opportunities for improvement that this review may find Kelsey. And as they reviewed this case, there has been some criticism of law enforcement response, right? Yeah, that's right. Particularly criticism surrounding the moment a new hope police officer encountered the suspect outside Senator and rests home and moved on without question. But Brooklyn Park also faced questions about why it took responding officers an hour to enter the Hortman home. Like I mentioned, that department cleared those officers of any wrongdoing, and Chief Brulee has called their response near perfect. But still, it will be interesting to see what this review finds. Here's Chief Brulee during an interview with my colleague Paul Bloom back in July. I'm calling for an after action park. Let's learn what we did really well and also learn where we could have made improvements. That's what we should do in this case. Okay, supporting how much will this cost? Well, it's a great question. Simone. The review comes with a price tag of nearly half a million dollars and will mostly be paid for by the state.
