After snow this weekend, many cities including Minneapolis and St. Paul declared snow emergencies. FOX 9's Bill Keller has the latest on what you need to know on Monday.

Minneapolis and St. Paul have enacted snow emergencies after a recent snowstorm, resulting in strict parking regulations and active towing of vehicles not in compliance. Residents relying on street parking are particularly affected, with many vehicles already towed to impound lots and owners facing fees exceeding $220 to retrieve their cars.

In Minneapolis, parking is prohibited on snow emergency routes until 8 a.m., after which restrictions shift to even-numbered sides of streets. St. Paul enforces night plow and day plow routes, with signage marking only night plow routes. Both cities provide alert systems to help residents stay informed about changing parking rules.

cities around the metro are still cleaning up after the weekend snow. And that means the first snow emergencies of the year are officially underway for many cities and drivers beware. Bill Keller live for us in Minneapolis with what you need to know to make sure your car doesn't end up where he is. Good morning. Good morning guys. Yeah, the last thing you want to do is take that walk of shame this morning. Last week, of course, we got the refresher course on driving in winter. Now, residents in both Minneapolis and ST paul need to brush up on their winter parking rules, especially for anyone who relies on street parking. That's because it's not just the city plows that have been out working overnight. The tow trucks have been right there with them, busy removing anyone who is not parked where they are supposed to be. In fact, we saw plenty of vehicles being hauled here to the impound lot in Minneapolis overnight. Each one of them owned by somebody who will first need to get a ride here, then pay more than $220 to get their car back. It is an expensive lesson that cost this unlucky customer twice as much as most people. Take a listen. I came out at four o'clock, getting ready to go to work and both my cars were towed. Has it ever happened before? It's my first time. I've been here seven years. That's the first time. Is it gonna happen again? No, sir. Yeah, both of his vehicles right now in Minneapolis. What he didn't realize is there's no parking on either side of those snow emergency routes that lasts for another hour at eight a.m. The rules change. Then there is no parking on the even numbered sides of the streets. Forget to move your car. You could wind up here. You could be ticketed or towed across the river. Parking restrictions also in effect in ST paul. They do things a little differently though. Since last night at nine p.m. There is no parking on what they call their night plow routes. Then starting at eight a.m. The rules change. Parking restrictions switched to the day plow routes. Here's the thing you need to know. The night plow routes are clearly marked with signs. The day plow routes are not. So if you don't see a sign that would be one of the day plow routes again. Both Minneapolis and ST paul thankfully do have alerts. Good thing to sign up for. That way you are always in the know and know when it's time to move your car back to you guys. I feel like I'm back in calculus class for that guy too. A lot going on there. All right.
