As we celebrate our country's veterans today, we want to remember America's veteran servicewomen. Women who served in the Reserve and National Guard components, those who deployed in combat operations, and those who served in peacetime.

The Military Women's Memorial in Arlington hosted a ceremony recognizing the contributions of American servicewomen and veterans. The event included wreath-laying, emotional tributes, and participation from women veterans, including members of the Navajo Nation Honor Guard.

Speakers such as Phyllis Wilson, president of the memorial, and senior advisor Maureen Cushman reflected on their military service and the pride felt by women veterans. The memorial also introduced a new exhibit highlighting the history of women in the military, and remains open to the public.

She's president here of the memorial How did you feel today about what happened? It's like the Grinch that stole Christmas my heart got bigger by three sizes at least just to hear these stories of these proud women Veterans and sharing what this day means to them. Now, what is your military background? I'm an army veteran I served for 37 years and it was an honor of a lifetime to do so And when you think about all the women that were here today and some of them spoke their names mentioned in that What was the emotion like in the room? It was high. There were some tears There might have been some tissues that were needed But that's what today is all about really to commemorate what we've done what we are doing and what the future holds for us Well, let's talk to your senior advisor over here. This is Maureen Cushman. Thank you for being a part of this as well Tell us about your background in the military. Thank you. I'm a 25 year veteran of the United States Army proud veteran, of course And served here in the in Washington DC as well as in Europe And various places around the United States and your feelings for today. Oh today was fabulous We were just talking about every year We think well, we can't it never can be that good again and every year the stories and the women are just Amazing and we're so proud to be able to do that to tell America about the women who've served Well, take a look. We've got some video of part of the Ceremony that was here today and some of the things that happened and I mean we had the Honor Guard as well Tell us about them our Honor Guard They were two women from the Navajo Nation and they are both veterans one a marine one army It's just amazing what they talked about and why they chose to serve this country And when you look at this video Phyllis, you know with the emotion and how everybody felt here tell me what is the one thing you really want people to walk away with to know that we're really proud to serve this country and After we're we've hung up the uniform and we're now have the the title of veteran We're very proud of that too But we continue to serve this nation even out of uniform and the exhibits that people can see here Oh so many exhibits from the Revolutionary War till today and a brand new one that we just unveiled This afternoon here at the memorial so come and visit us We're open 9 to 5 every day except Sunday, which is noon to 5 and we're free to the public here at the entrance to Arlington Well, you couldn't ask for anything better and Maureen just back over to you now We're looking at some of the video of this, you know When you walk through these hallways and see that exhibit and know about your own history in the history of others What comes to mind for you?
