A new measles case was confirmed at the Copper Kids Child Care Facility, which operates within Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah. The Salt Lake County Health Department reported that the infected individual, who was unvaccinated, was present at the facility while infectious from December 1st to 5th.

Health officials have directly notified all unvaccinated individuals who may have been exposed and are advising the school community to watch for symptoms such as cough, fever, and rash. Utah currently has 105 reported measles cases, with the majority in Southwest Utah, while several counties remain unaffected.

Now, on FOX 13 News at 530, a new measles case has been confirmed at a child care facility at Bingham High School in South Jordan. FOX 13 News reporter Jeremy Toms has the latest. Salt Lake County Health Department officials tell us this case was found within someone attending the Copper Kids Child Care Facility here in South Jordan. They add that this person was infectious for all of the last school week while attending the facility from December 1st to the 5th. The health department wouldn't specify whether this was a student, faculty member or a child being cared for, but they did note the infected person was unvaccinated, which left them at a higher risk for infection. The school's website describes Copper Kids as an on-site child care lab designed to teach high school students the proper care of young children. The facility is provided for employees of the high school and the district as a whole, and ages are shown to range from 6 weeks to 5 years. The health department notes infants typically get their first dose of the MMR vaccine at 12 to 15 months old, so with children even younger in this facility, we asked them what parents should be looking out for. Some of the signs are very similar to flu-like symptoms. You have cough, runny nose, red eyes, fever and a rash that usually starts at the hairline and, you know, the rest of the face moves to the rest of your body. The health department adds that they've directly notified every unvaccinated individual who is known to have had contact with the infected person, but because measles is extremely contagious, they're also reminding everyone in the Bingham School community that they should be aware of the symptoms and the possibility that they've been exposed. Southwest Utah has the largest number of cases at 76. The only counties with no cases are San Juan, Summit, Tooele and Weber Morgan.
