Christopher James McLoughney, 37, was arrested and charged with murder after a fatal domestic dispute at a family home in Kersley, near Cessnock, New South Wales. Police allege that McLoughney shot 39-year-old Rikeya Lake, his partner of four months, in front of her seven-year-old child. 

McLoughney was apprehended in a Bellbird car park after a public tip-off, and police seized drugs, ammunition, and a sawn-off shotgun from his vehicle. He did not apply for bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance in Newcastle. The victim is survived by her three children.

Together for just four months, police say 39-year-old Rikeya Lake was shot by her boyfriend around 7pm on Friday in front of her seven-year-old child. I heard the noise out the front. You said that her mother was bleeding bad from the head. Confronting even for police. Attended to the scene which was reported to be quite horrific and traumatic for the police attending. Is your client remorseful? I'm really sorry, I'm not going to answer that question. McLoughney was arrested in a Bellbird car park after a tip-off from the public. There was a yellow car there where a bloke jumped out and got into the car he'd apparently left there before. He went to drive off but they had him out on the ground before he could get too far. His black Hyundai searched, heroin, cannabis, ammunition and a sawn-off 12-gauge shotgun seized. The mother of three is survived by her children. One saying on social media, If convicted, McLoughney is looking at life behind bars and for now at least that's where he'll remain until his next court appearance in Newcastle in the new year after today making no application for bail. It is a tragic incident and nothing that I'm going to say is going to change that. Olivia Blunden, 10 News.
