They sure were, Sandra. No-one really knew what would happen next once this fire broke out, and this service station is flanked by a significant number of apartments. The fire itself started in those refill LPG cylinders you often see near the doors of a service station, and they made very effective flamethrowers, which were throwing those flames on anything that they could reach. Now, I'm going to take you straight to some pictures now. This is what it looked like for those people in and near the store as that fire took hold. It was a terrifying moment for both the service station, the adjoining Baghdad car wash, as well as the mechanics out the back. They all evacuated very, very quickly. There wasn't much any of those bystanders could do. Cars were left at the pumps, neighbours were moved further back as that exclusion zone was set up. Now, one of those vehicles left in the service station belonged to Ricardo. He was inside the store at the time, and he's now a tradie without a car or the tools in the back. Here's what he told me about those frightening moments. I saw the fire coming out of the gas tanks with the attendants of the petrol station, and we just had time to run away. I said to the attendants, hey, what is the extinguisher, but the fire started getting bigger and bigger. We could only see fire, like there wasn't smoke or anything. It was just fire at the moment, and it was crazy, but we're glad that it's over. Now, thankfully, as that emergency situation subsides, so too does the inconvenience for residents in this area. For now, firefighters are monitoring those LPG tanks remotely. They've also been conducting atmospheric testing to make sure the air quality is OK in this area. But Hamilton Street, along the side of the servo here, has reopened, so things starting to get back to normal for the residents. For the owners here, it's going to take them a little longer as they try and assess what has happened, how it happened, and what they do next with all this damage.
