The decision has faced criticism from the French labor union CGT, which argues the policy unfairly targets foreign visitors and constitutes discrimination. In 2024, non-French visitors accounted for 77 percent of the Louvre's 8.7 million guests, with Americans and Chinese tourists among the largest groups.
