Here's a look at how Las Vegas Grand Prix organizers plan to give back to the valley in wake of the government shutdown.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is maintaining its commitment to supporting the southern Nevada community by partnering with local organizations to donate unused food, beverages, and supplies to families in need. Last year, the event provided 172,000 pounds of food and beverages to local food banks, as well as clothing and other items to charities supporting veterans and at-risk groups.

In addition to these donations, the Grand Prix recycled 76,000 pounds of food scraps in an effort to reduce waste and environmental impact. Organizers have announced plans to expand these initiatives and increase their charitable contributions during the upcoming event.

That's exactly right. And this year is no different. Las Vegas Grand Prix say that they will continue donating directly to people who need it at the most with food and supplies. Now, last year, the Grand Prix donated £172,000 of food and beverages to three square food bank and the aftermarket. Now, it wasn't just food, though. Clothing and different items were donated to Veterans Villain and Shine a Light Foundation, and more than 100 plants were delivered to Opportunity Village and the city of Las Vegas. We were looking for charities that really make a difference here in southern Nevada, but also support the pillars that are important to us. We are big in sustainability. We believe in stem education and supporting at risk youth. The Grand Prix also recycled £76,000 of food scraps last year, all part of an effort to cut down waste and reduce its environmental impact.
