Local leaders have set a deadline of December 31 for stadium site proposals, while the Legislature has extended the activation deadline for potential funding bonds to June 30, 2026. The Royals organization stated that they are still evaluating multiple sites and that safety and fan experience remain priorities in their decision-making process.

And tonight, concerned neighbors plan to meet and strategize on how to stop the Royals from coming to this area. Kshb 41 News reporter Elise Shonig covers Johnson County for us. She heard the voices ahead of the meeting to hear out their concerns. Mhm. You may remember that the Aspiria campus here near 119th and all in Overland Park could be a potential future site for a new Kansas City Royal Stadium. I'm Elise Shonig and I cover portions of Johnson County. Some residents tell me that with a key deadline in these proposals approaching, they're concerned with just how little they feel they know this home field advantage isn't one Johnson County parent, Amanda Palin wants. We have a lot of questions and there hasn't been a lot of information or answers. Some leaders from the Kansas Legislature are eyeing December 31st as a deadline for proposals for stadium sites for the Kansas City Royals to be brought back for formal review. There's lots of traffic congestion and putting a major league baseball stadium right down in the middle of that, um, is really counterintuitive to maintaining safe, walkable communities, um, and creates a very scary situation related to traffic and particularly teenage drivers, um, coming and going. Star bonds are the funding that could be used to help build stadium projects like this one for the Royals. The Legislature extended the deadline for the activation of these star bonds to June 30th of 2026. We want to make sure that people have a forum to share their concerns tonight started because there was a swelling of people who said we have no idea of what's going on. Marcia Friedman is another nearby neighbor taking her questions and concerns to a forum at the Leawood City Hall Monday night. You've got hospitals. People are critically ill. You have manure. It's right across street. How are they gonna like it when they're hearing fireworks? What about village alone? She hopes she and her neighbors gain more clarity from the forum. Speaking on behalf of yourself, the best case scenario here is that the Royals just pick somewhere else. I'd say that's right. Yeah. And when it's time for them to step up to bat December 31st, Freedman's hoping they do strike out in Johnson County. Elise Schoenig KSHB 41 News. Thank you, Elise.
