Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank, particularly in Jenin, have led to the destruction or damage of over 700 homes since January, displacing an estimated 32,000 Palestinians, according to Human Rights Watch. Residents describe returning to find their homes reduced to rubble, with personal belongings looted or destroyed, and entire neighborhoods left uninhabitable.

Israel states it aimed to minimize civilian risk during these operations, but footage has emerged of Israeli forces shooting unarmed, surrendered men. With nearly a year of ongoing raids, many Palestinians fear their displacement may become permanent as the destruction continues.

In Jenin, residents of the occupied West Bank refugee camp survey what's left of their homes after an Israeli raid. Little more than rubble. These are just some of more than 700 West Bank homes damaged or destroyed since January, displacing an estimated 32,000 Palestinians, according to Human Rights Watch. Rubble has forcibly removed more families as troops expand deeper into Jenin. Rabia Al-Fayed is staying in temporary accommodation. She was allowed to return to her home to collect belongings. What she saw appalled her. There was a room and a water well bulldozed by the Israelis. The Israelis destroyed the stairs, wrecked doors and windows. Nothing remained. Even the furniture was not spared. It was all looted, even covers and blankets. I was shocked. Maisa Al-Natour left with just some cookware and a simple wooden bowl. She brought it as a keepsake from her home in the refugee camp, now crushed by an Israeli bulldozer. Not a single house was spared, if not flattened, at least damaged. We returned to the camp, once bustling with life, to see a ghost city. We could see nothing but ruins, rife with stray animals. For no reason, we were forced out of our homes and returned to find them in ruins. This is a crime. Israel says it sought to minimise risk to civilians in Jenin. Footage last week of Israeli forces shooting dead two unarmed, surrendered men serves as a reminder to Palestinians here what the risks really are. And with almost a year of ongoing Israeli raids and military operations across Jenin, many have reason to fear that their displacement could be permanent. Fredi Akar, Al Jazeera.
