Additionally, experts highlight the need for large-scale aid and medical care to address the effects of severe malnutrition in the region.

First relieved at the sight of aid pallets falling from the sky, instincts then take over. Some resort to fistfights, but that's not the only dangerous part of airdrops. Parcels sometimes land in militarized zones or cause direct injury to those on the ground. We were waiting for the drop. It landed on a tent, and a person inside looked like he could have been killed. God knows. He went to hospital. On Tuesday, Israel said it would allow basic goods to start entering the Strip through the private sector. A limited number of local merchants have been approved to participate, and the products would be paid for via bank transfer only. But speaking to France 24, the founder of an NGO active in Gaza said this alone would not ease people's suffering. The reality on the ground right now is that if it's only the commercial route that is opened and that there's eventually some sort of produce on the market, what are people supposed to buy that with? Who actually has an income in Gaza right now? So it's very much yet another unrealistic solution. Experts also stress that not only are huge amounts of aid needed to reverse the effects of severe malnutrition, but undernourished people need medical care to avoid serious complications when food is reintroduced.

Multiple media outlets in Israel have reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants a complete military takeover of Gaza, while almost 600 former Israeli military and security officials are petitioning Washington to stop the fighting.
